A free remove.bg alternative that never uploads your photos
remove.bg is moving to Canva. From December 1, 2026 at 9:00am CET, its standalone website will no longer be available. The self-service API will stop accepting requests on that date, and from then on API access moves to Leonardo.Ai. If you just need to cut out a background now and then, you don't have to move to a new account or a paid plan. ImageConvertLab removes the background right in your browser with AI, for free, and your photo never leaves your device.

remove.bg desktop app, batch mode and Photoshop plugin
According to the official remove.bg FAQ:
- Desktop app (Windows, Mac and Linux): remove.bg points to Canva's bulk background removal as the alternative, in the Canva web app or the Canva desktop app.
- Batch mode: Canva lets you remove the background from several images at once. For larger volumes, remove.bg recommends the Leonardo.Ai API.
- Photoshop plugin: it won't be available after December 1, 2026. remove.bg suggests Affinity, also part of Canva. Affinity is free, but its background removal runs on Canva AI and needs a Canva Pro subscription.
- Other integrations and plugins: they are discontinued on December 1, 2026.
ImageConvertLab doesn't replace any of these: it works one image at a time in your browser, with no app or plugin to install. It's for when you just need a transparent PNG, without an account and without uploading the photo.
Remove a background without Canva
If you only used remove.bg to cut out a background now and then, you don't need a Canva account or any other account. Open the tool, choose your photo and download the transparent PNG. The AI runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
Why use ImageConvertLab instead
- No upload. The AI model runs inside your browser. Your image is processed on your device and is never sent to a server.
- Free, with no limits on uses. No credits, no sign-up, no watermark.
- Transparent PNG. You get a ready-to-use PNG with a transparent background.
- Works with JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10 MB.
How to remove a background without remove.bg
- Open the background remover.
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP photo (up to 10 MB).
- The first time, you'll see a quick preview in under a minute, even on a slow connection. The final result needs the full AI model (about 100 MB), which can take several minutes on a slow connection; the progress bar shows how far along it is. On mobile, Wi-Fi is a good idea. After that the model stays cached and each image takes a few seconds, depending on your device and the image size.
- Download your transparent PNG.
Is it right for you?
It's a good fit if you remove backgrounds from product photos, profile pictures or one-off images and care about privacy. It processes one image at a time and has no API. For batches, remove.bg points to Canva; to automate, the Leonardo.Ai API is the official path.
